Safe to take the job. Safe to send the report.
Check the job, protect the cover, keep the record. Home tells you when your firm has surveyed a property before, reminds you before your professional indemnity insurance runs out, and writes down every decision you make.
Step one · Check the job
Watch one enquiry get checked.
An enquiry lands on a Tuesday morning. Before anyone quotes, Home has already looked through your firm's own history.

Your decision and note are saved
No conflict, a conflict managed with consent, or decline. Whichever you choose is kept with your name and the date.

How it works
Three things you do. The rest happens by itself.
Most firms run conflict checks from memory, a spreadsheet, or a shout across the office. This runs on every job without anyone remembering to do it.
Carry on working
There is nothing to switch on. Each time a report or an enquiry is created with an address, Home checks it against every report your firm has written here. Most of the time it finds nothing, and records that it looked.
Decide when it finds something
If your firm has been to the property before, you see what the job was, when, and who did it. If the address is close but not identical, you see it as a possible match. You pick one of three outcomes and add a note.
Bring your history with you
Upload a spreadsheet of the jobs you did before Home. An address column is all it needs. Those jobs are used for checking only, so the check covers your earlier years too.
Step two · Protect the cover
The renewal date nobody has to remember.
Add your professional indemnity policy once: insurer, policy number, cover, dates and the certificate. Home does the remembering from there.

Lifts when you save new dates
Each reminder goes once per expiry date. Save new dates and the run starts again.
Three reminders, then a lock
Your firm's admins are emailed sixty, thirty and seven days before the expiry date. If the date passes with nothing updated, new reports can't be issued until it is.
Cover lapsed
Reports can't be issued until your insurance is updated
Everything else still works, and reports you've already issued aren't affected.

A lock that only stops the risky part
It pauses issuing a new report and nothing else. Reports your clients already hold are untouched, and the lock lifts the moment you save your new dates.
What actually changes
Fewer things to carry in your head.
1 · Before you quote
You know you've stood here before
Not on the doorstep, when the house looks familiar. On the day the enquiry arrives, while you can still do something about it.
2 · Renewal month
The reminder finds you
Two months out, one month out, one week out. Upload the new certificate when it arrives and the reminders stop.
3 · When someone asks
The answer is already written down
Which jobs you checked, what you found and what you decided, in one spreadsheet you can hand over.
Step three · Keep the record
Every check. Every decision. One log.
Checks that found nothing
Recorded too, so there is proof the check ran on every job.
Decisions saved once
A decision can't be edited afterwards. Notes can be added, each one dated and named.
Who and when
The surveyor who decided and the date are kept with every entry.
One download
The whole log as a spreadsheet, for any date range.
Plainly
What it does, and what stays with you.
Home does
- Check every new job against your firm's own records
- Show you earlier work on the same property, however the address was typed
- Record your decision and note, and keep it unchanged
- Remind you before your recorded cover expires
- Stop new reports being issued once it has
You do
- Decide whether earlier work is a conflict. That is your professional judgement
- Keep your policy details up to date. Home stores what you enter and doesn't confirm it with your insurer
- Upload earlier jobs if you want them covered. The check only sees what is on record here
FAQ
Common questions about insurance and conflicts
The conflict check
What does the conflict check look at?
Your own firm's records: every report your firm has written in Home, and any past jobs you have uploaded. It does not look at other firms, and it cannot see work that is not on record here.
When does it run?
By itself, every time a report or an enquiry is created with an address. You can also check any address by hand before you quote.
What happens when it finds something?
You see what the earlier job was, when it was and who did it. You choose one of three outcomes: no conflict, a conflict managed with consent, or declining the job. You add a note and it is saved.
Does Home decide whether it is a conflict?
No. Whether an earlier instruction is a conflict of interest is your professional judgement. Home surfaces the earlier work and records your answer.
What if the address was typed differently?
The check tidies addresses before it compares them, so "14 Elm Rd" and "14 Elm Road" match, with or without the postcode spaced. When two addresses share a postcode and house number but are not identical, you see it as a possible match.
Can I change a decision later?
No. A decision is saved once. You can add notes to it afterwards, each one dated and named, so the record shows what was known when.
Past jobs and the log
How do I get my old jobs in?
Upload a CSV with an Address column. Postcode, date, client and reference columns are used if they are there. Those rows are used for checking only and never appear as jobs.
Can I give the log to RICS or my insurer?
Yes. The full log downloads as a spreadsheet: what was checked, when, what was found, the decision, who made it and the note.
Insurance and the lock
When do the insurance reminders go out?
Sixty, thirty and seven days before the expiry date you entered. They go to your firm's admins. Each one is sent once, and saving new dates starts the run again.
What exactly is locked when cover lapses?
Issuing a new report: signing it off, downloading it for the first time, or submitting it. Drafting, your diary, payments and every report you have already issued carry on as normal.
How do I lift the lock?
Save your new policy dates. The lock lifts straight away.
Does Home check my policy with the insurer?
No. Home stores the details you enter and the certificate you upload. It does not confirm them with your insurer.
Is a firm with nothing on file locked?
No. The lock only applies once you have recorded a policy and its expiry date has passed.
Who can see this?
Only people at your firm. It is not shown on your public profile.
