Gillingham is a market town located in north Dorset, approximately 5.6 miles (15 minutes) by road to the north west of Shafetsbury. The A303 lies 4.5 miles (10 minutes) by road to the north. Gillingham railway station provides direct access to London Waterloo from 1hour 54minutes and Exeter from 1hour and 22 minutes. Frequent bus services run to surrounding settlements.

The site is located on the eastern edge of Gillingham

Maps link). The site is level and currently made up

of grassland with hedgerows on all boundaries. Vehicular

access will be achieved from the north, off Barnaby Mead,

where adjacent developments by Bellway and Aster

provide a through route to the site. Immediately inside the

northern boundary is a public footpath which has been

maintained on the illustrative masterplan.

To the north is a northwest area of period residential

housing. To the east and west are school playing fields, and

to the south is Gillingham School (Secondary) and

Gillingham Primary School. Gillingham has a wide range of

shops and other facilities and can be accessed easily from

the site.
