Horesbridge is a small hamlet 1.5 miles North of Hailsham high street, it consists of a CO-OP convenience store, Veterinary practice, two Public houses one of which caters for meals throughout the day. Horsebridge has a Cricket ground and Rugby pitch, which doubles up as a recreation ground with play equipment for children. There are several footpaths nearby one of which has a couple of world war II pillar boxes on the route reminding us of a bygone era, as well as other routes that can connect with the Cuckoo trail. The Cuckoo Line is an informal name for the now defunct railway service which linked Polegate and Eridge, from 1880 to 1968. It was nicknamed the Cuckoo Line by drivers, from a tradition observed at the annual fair at Heathfield, a station on the route. At the fair, which was held each April, a lady would release a cuckoo from a basket, it being supposedly the 'first cuckoo of spring'.
There are lots of Primary Schools in and around Hailsham and a Secondary school with excellent sporting facilities, all within a couple of miles.
