A Grade II Listed town house. Three bedrooms, one bathroom, one reception room. Approx 109.4 sq m (1177 sq ft). Vacant.

Description

Shelley Cottage is a charming three storey town house, forming part of a larger historic Grade II Listed building. The site is believed to have originally been occupied by a late 16th century home, rebuilt in the 18th century as one large town house. Early in the 19th century, the literary greats Mary Shelley and Percy Shelley purchased the home, where Mary penned her masterpiece Frankenstein. They moved from the property in 1818 and at some point afterward the property was split into four homes that remain in place today. The properties are particularly handsome in architecture, with a tall flat façade interspersed with covered storm porches. Ornate detail to the window openings and frames, along with an attractive roofline, provide architectural interest.

Location

Marlow is an affluent commuter town in the Thames valley located around 35 miles west of central London, 20 miles east of Reading and 31 miles south east of Oxford.

Marlow town centre offers an excellent range of local independent and national retailers. There are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants in the immediate area. The town itself is situated on the banks of the River Thames and the Thames Path follows the river through the town. Just outside the town, the area opens out to rolling countryside and the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Shelley Cottage is set in an attractive part of West Street amongst some handsome period buildings and within walking distance of the town centre.

Transport

The town has a train station to Paddington (via Maidenhead - fastest journey time around 45 minutes). The M40 and M4 motorways are accessed from the A404(M).

Accommodation

Internally, the property provides on the ground floor a reception room, overlooking the West Street to the front, an inner hall with guest cloakroom and a bright kitchen and dining room with vaulted ceiling, overlooking the rear courtyard garden. To the first and second floors, there are two double bedrooms and one single bedroom, along with a good size bathroom.

Outside to the rear of the house is a garden, decked to provide an all-year-round entertaining space.

To the rear of the garden is a timber outbuilding for storage.
