Description
Badger Cottage is believed to have been built in the mid 1800s with a later extension in 1999. The accommodation combines 19th century character with more contemporary living and the house occupies a good central village location.
The front of the house faces south and internally the original front door opens into the sitting room, a lovely character room with a wood burning stove, window seats and shutters. The kitchen / dining room is part of the extension and is a super family space running across the width of the house. The kitchen has a range of floor standing units, attractive wooden floors, walk-in larder and two Belfast sinks. Just off the kitchen is a utility room with space and plumbing for appliances, wash hand basin and WC. From the dining room a door leads to an inner hall which is ideal for a home computer and the staircase leads to the first floor landing.
All four bedrooms are good double rooms and each has fitted wardrobes or storage. The bedrooms to the front of the house have lovely views out to Bulbarrow while those at the rear overlook the garden and the fields beyond. The family bathroom has been recently renovated and has a large walk-in shower, bath, hand basin and WC.
Outside there is parking at the front for a number of cars and a lovely elevated garden to the rear.
Situation - Hazelbury Bryan is located in the heart of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex, approximately central within the triangle formed by the towns of Blandford Forum, Sherborne and Dorchester. It is on the edge of the Blackmore Vale and adjacent to Bulbarrow Hill. The village which featured in the Sunday Times 2015 top 50 places to live, is primarily supported by services located in Sturminster Newton about 4 miles distant, the larger towns such as Sherborne, Yeovil, Dorchester and Blandford Forum which are within about a half hour drive from the village . Hazelbury Bryan is the Parish name that embraces seven hamlets making up the residential areas. They are Droop, Kingston, Parkgate, Pidney (including Partway), Pleck, Wonston and Woodrow. The village has a local shop, community sports field and a children’s play area and The Antelope Inn. The Village Hall on Partway is an active centre of community life. The main Church for the village and the primary school are located at the south-eastern point, in Droop. There is a Methodist Chapel adjacent to the Village Hall.
Directions - From our offices in Sturminster Newton go over the bridge and turn right then take the first left up Glue Hill towards Hazelbury Bryan. Continue into the village passing the Memorial hall on the left and the pub on the right and along Partway Lane passing the village hall on the right. Badger Cottage is two houses after the former Methodist chapel.
Outside - The property is approached from the lane on to an area of hardstanding with parking for a number of cars. There is a large gravelled parking and turning area with a retaining wall beyond and steps up to the garden. The garden is laid to lawn with some mature trees and hedges and a large decking area taking advantage of the outlook. The views to the south out to Bulbarrow are wonderful and far-reaching and to the rear the garden adjoins and overlooks fields.
Services - Mains electricity, water and drainage are connected to the property. Oil fired central heating.
